White Dew on September 7
White Dew is also the third solar term of autumn. At this time, the climate gradually shifts from early autumn to late autumn. Dew is the condensation of water vapor on the ground due to the drop in temperature. BaiLu actually signifies that the weather has become cold, especially the increased temperature difference between morning and evening.
Autumn Equinox
On Sunday, September 22, 2024, we enter the fourth solar term of autumn, which is also the sixteenth of the 24 periods of the solar year: the Autumn Equinox (秋分 Qiū Fēn), marking the midpoint of autumn.
Yi Jing
The Yi Jing includes 12 sovereign hexagrams associated with the 12 solar periods of the calendar. The month of September is linked to the eighth month, the Earthly Branch 酉 You (Rooster), and Hexagram 20 (Contemplation).

- Water is generated by Metal, so Water is strong.
- Earth generates Metal, but Earth becomes exhausted because Metal is in season, so Earth is weak.
- Fire controls Metal, so Fire weakens in the presence of prosperous Metal, and Fire is trapped.
- Wood is controlled by the prosperous Metal, so Wood is dead.
